
Julie London (nee Peck; September 26 1926 - October 18 in 2000) was an American actor and performer her career spans more than 40 years. London was a torch-singer, known for her smooth, soft vocals. She recorded more than 30 albums of pop and jazz classics between 1955 and 1969. Her debut album "Cry Me a River" which she recorded and was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2001. London was nominated for the Golden Globe Award for 1974 due to her performance in Emergency! as Nurse Dixie McCall. Born in Santa Rosa, California, to vaudevillian parents, London was discovered while working as an elevator operator in downtown Los Angeles, and she began her acting career. London's 35-year acting career started on film in 1944 and included roles as the female lead in several westerns. She starred along with Rock Hudson in The Fat Man (1951) and with Robert Taylor and John Cassavetes in Saddle the Wind (1958) and with Gary Cooper in Man of the West (1958) and together with Robert Mitchum in The Wonderful Country (1959). In the mid-1950s, she signed a recording deal with Liberty Records, marking the beginning of her professional music career. The final album of her studio was released in the year 1969. She continued her success in the role of the female main character of Dixie McCall on the television series Emergency! (1972-1979) in which she appeared alongside her husband Bobby Troup. Jack Webb, her ex-husband, produced the show.
